The New Offering from Hennes and Mauritz

Image from Evening Standard

Hennes and Mauritz, otherwise known as H&M, are set to be opening their first UK store for their new and exciting project '& Other Stories' on Regent Street.

This fabulous new brand is set to entice those with a lust for high quality bargains, offering a better quality than H&M and more variety than COS but still at an affordable price. This brand is particularly focusing on personal style rather than conforming to regular fast fashion which certainly fits with the current interest to experiment with fashion - reconstruct, recreate, redecorate - following the make-do-and-mend concept from the 50s.

This brand is looking to be very innovative and daring by interpreting styles in four seasonal collections rather than copying from the Catwalk which is certainly an interesting move for a high street brand. This method shows how & Other Stories are really paying attention the their consumers, their preferred way of shopping. It has become more popular for customers to take part in shopping experiences that encourage a more personal and intimate way for them to shop, specifically for their own tastes. This brand is trying to focus on these aspects by gathering their trend information straight from the main source; the shopper.

The Return of the GIFs

It is predicted that the 'old school' cinemagraphs will be reappearing in 2013 to use more in advertisements as more brands are beginning to notice their great appreciation. GIFs or cinemagraphs are bitmap image formats, originating in 1987 by CompuServe. It was designed to allow coloured image formats to appear on their file downloading areas. It will be interesting to see where the future designers will take this to a new level within the design industry. Phone Apps have already started with this idea of providing GIFs - such as GifBoom from TapMojo LLC or Vine by VINE LABS INC- which offers a short but effective way of creating small stop motion videos using several images.

Its all Metallic at the Oscars

Nicole Kidman

Stacy Keibler

Naomi Watts

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Lawrence

Halle Berry

It was definitely the year of metallic at the Oscars 2013 with many of the famous celebrity idols flaunting their shiny attire. Moving away from the bold red gowns or usual black dresses, this year was about the new, the future, the daring, it was the shimmering and shiny that was the key look. It was almost as though it was a sea of dark glittering yet robotic crystals. The varied patterns and necklines of these gowns clearly shows the huge range of unique styles and clever experimentation with design.

This metallic look is certainly taking a forward step in the world of design and is a clear trend that will continue to grow.

Ashish LFW 2013

Ashish's AW 2013 collection contained an interesting and modern twist on urban work wear with his signature sequinned detail together with sports luxe dress. Additionally, excitingly this collection involves the emerging Scottish inspired trend peaking through, with the exposed variegated tartan print and oversized silhouettes. Strangely enough Ashish took this to another level by including hints of the emerging 'Destruction' trend with expressions such as "The End is Near" and the explosive firey-dyed hair.

Givenchy

Givenchy's 2013 Fall collection really grasped the attention of Paris Fashion Week with its beautiful intricate yet grungy look. The mix of oversized and feminine peplum silhouettes worked well along with the contrasts between the leather and sheer fabrics. All together rounded up with the the creatively vibrant coloured hair locks almost representing a floral detail.
